Flypaper

As a writer, once I had this bizarre idea - what if two robberies were to happen simultaneously at the same place, at the same time. I thought it was a unique idea, and would make for a very entertaining and distinctive story.

And then I came across Flypaper and realised it had already been done.

And I must say I couldn't have done any better than this! Because more than anyone, it was truly a writer's movie.

The protagonist (Patrick Dempsey) goes to a bank when two different set of robbers enter and take everyone hostage. The two crews are as different as chalk and cheese, different backgrounds, different plans, targets, styles and techniques. The first set consists of professional with an elaborate plan. While the second pair of robbers are completely unplanned and low in IQ. While the pros are after the vault, the idiots are after the ATMs.

The the hero sees the predicament and realizes he has a real good chance becoming a sort of mediator between the two set of robbers and stop them from killing people in the crossfire, while at the same time impressing the girl he likes who is a teller at the bank.

But not everything is at it seems, and there's something more happening than meets the eyes. And people do start dying.

More than a thriller, this is a comedy with plenty of surprises and unexpected happenings. Nothing here is predictable. No one is who he or she seems.

The main question here is – are the two bank robberies related? Or is it just a coincidence? Do both have the same source at the bank that gave them the same tip? Also, is there an inside man? These questions make the film a sort of mystery, a contemporary adaptation of Agatha Christie’s comedy Clue.

As the story progresses more people die and the people stuck there have to figure out who is the killer and why are the characters being bumped off.

So this slowly turns into a locked room murder mystery along with a two bank robberies!

Quite a rich layered story, one has to say!
